You're Exactly Where You're Supposed to Be

Piedmont Park, Midtown Atlanta, GA

Many of you know I'm currently journeying through menopause—and let me tell you, it's been a ride. Between the hot flashes, mood swings, weight gain, and sleepless nights, I've had more than a few moments of asking, “Is this really happening?” But through God's grace, I found an incredible doctor and started Hormone Replacement Therapy using Bioidentical Pellets. And honestly, it has changed everything.

Dr. Nicole Peoples, Hormone Specialist

Since starting HRT, I've seen a major shift—no more hot flashes, anxiety, or 3 a.m. wake-ups that leave me staring at the ceiling. But one of the hardest parts of menopause for me? The unexpected weight gain. I've always maintained a weight that felt good for me, living a plant-based lifestyle filled with mindful eating and movement. And yet, I gained over 20 pounds in just one year. It was frustrating and, at times, heartbreaking.

But instead of spiraling, I decided to shift.

The pellets are helping stabilize my hormones, reduce elevated insulin levels and cholesterol, and even support heart health. But I knew I had to meet the treatment halfway—by adjusting my diet and lifestyle. That meant lowering my sugar intake, cutting calories, and reintroducing daily walks. And yes… I started weighing my food. Something I never thought I'd do, but wow—what an eye-opener. What you think is a serving? Yeah… not always.

At first it felt tedious. But after a few days, I got into the rhythm—and it clicked. For now, I rotate a few high-protein, high-fiber meals throughout the week. I'm aiming for 120 grams of protein and 50 grams of fiber a day. It's a challenge on a plant-based diet, but I'm figuring it out—with the help of my new best friends, hemp seeds and tempeh.

Exercise has also shifted. I've always been a weights girl, but cardio? Not really my jam—except for the days when running used to be my outlet. That disappeared with menopause too. So now? I walk. Every day. My goal is 10,000 steps a day, even on weight training days (3x a week). On rest days, I'm walking 4 to 5 miles—and truly, I love it. It's meditative. It's grounding. And yes, it's working. In 4 weeks, I've gone from 166 to 158 pounds. It's a slower journey than before, but it's steady. And it's mine.

You'll see all of this reflected in the new recipes I've been sharing—lower in calories, simple ingredients, fiber-forward and protein-rich, but never lacking in flavor. Think roasted zucchini and pumpkin with tahini-citrus dressing. Think bold, vibrant, satisfying food that still loves your body back.

So yes—I can't believe this is my life. But also… I can. Because this is the life I prayed for. A life full of meaning, intention, health, and service to others. A life that reminds me: you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
